Martin Heylen 68 Zoekt Zijn Kleine En Grote Helden Op In Nieuwe Docureeks Die Kloosterzusters Zijn Eigenlijk Rebellen

Martin Heylen (68) Goes In Search of Big and Small Heroes in New Documentary Series: "Those Nuns Are Actually Rebels"

From bedside to the barricades: Martin Heylen reports on new heroes

Martin Heylen (68) is making a new documentary series. In it, he goes in search of people who make a difference, big or small. The first episode is about the nuns of the Berlaar Carmelite Monastery.

Nuns as rebels

"Those nuns are actually rebels," says Heylen. "They were the first women in Belgium to wear trousers. And they were also the first to protest against the Vietnam War."

In the new series, Heylen also talks to other heroes, such as a Syrian refugee who became a doctor in Belgium, an 11-year-old boy who is committed to climate change, and a group of volunteers who help homeless people.

"I think it is important to tell the stories of these people," says Heylen. "They show us that everyone can make a difference."

When can you see it?

The new documentary series will be broadcast on Canvas from September 30th.
