Is Tiktok Getting Banned In Europe

TikTok Banned by Top EU Institutions

Security Concerns Drive Decision

European Parliament, Commission, Council Join the TikTok Ban

The three top EU bodies - the European Parliament, European Commission, and the EU Council - have all banned the social media application TikTok from staff devices due to cybersecurity concerns. The European Parliament initially implemented the ban on Tuesday, citing concerns about the app's data collection practices and potential for espionage by the Chinese government, which owns TikTok's parent company ByteDance.

Following the European Parliament's action, the European Commission also announced a ban on TikTok from official devices, prompting a sharply critical response from the company. The United States House of Representatives passed a measure on March 17, 2023, to block TikTok from government-issued devices, and the Biden administration is considering a full ban on the app.

However, experts believe that a complete ban on TikTok is unlikely in Europe. While concerns about cybersecurity remain, the app has gained significant popularity in the region, and a full ban could have a negative impact on businesses and individuals.
