What is a Chromosome?
A Chromosome is a String of DNA
A chromosome is a string of DNA wrapped around associated proteins that give the connected nucleic acid bases a structure. Each chromosome is made of protein and a single molecule of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA). DNA is passed from parents to offspring. Chromosomes are the genetic material present in all cells. They are present in the nucleus of a eukaryotic cell. A chromosome is a package of DNA with part or all of the genetic material of an organism. In most chromosomes, the very long thin DNA fibers are coated. The 46 chromosomes of a human cell are organized into 23 pairs, and the two members of each pair are said to be homologues of one another.
