On April 19, 2024, paramedics were dispatched to a disturbing scene near Manhattan Criminal Court. Witnesses reported that a male subject, later identified as Maxwell Azzarello, had set himself on fire in a nearby park.

According to police reports, Azzarello, a 37-year-old resident of St. Augustine, Florida, was standing in the park when he threw a stack of pamphlets into the air. The pamphlets reportedly contained links to his Substack newsletter before he doused himself with a flammable liquid and ignited the flames.

The authorities urge anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the Manhattan Police Department. They also remind the public that self-harm is never the answer and encourage those struggling with mental health issues to seek help from a qualified professional.
